SPRUCING UP YOUR HOME ON A BUDGET

Making an effort to do a little extra to spruce up your home occasionally can make a positive impact on our lives. Refreshing your living space brings a sense of renewal. It prevents monotony in your everyday living. New colors, rearranged furniture, or updated decor can lift your spirits. Small changes, such as adding cozy cushions, decluttering, or organizing, contribute to a more comfortable living environment. Sprucing up allows you to make the most out of your home’s functionality. Repairing, upgrading, or reorganizing spaces can make daily life smoother. Remember, it doesn’t have to be a major overhaul—simple adjustments can make a significant difference! Today we’ll be discussing 10 tips to help you give your home a fresh look without spending a ton of money.

DECLUTTER

The easiest and often best first step to sprucing up your home is to declutter. Sometimes we may think our space doesn’t feel great because we might be constantly looking at things that we don’t need or use anymore. When we can pare down to just the things that we use and the things that we enjoy having in our homes, it helps make your space feel more organized. Decluttering costs nothing. Sometimes it is hard to envision the difference that decluttering can make. But once you start to remove some unneeded items, you will immediately start to feel the difference.

REARRANGE FURNITURE

Rearranging your furniture can give your home a new look without spending any money. Sometimes we might just get tired of the way a room looks because we are used to seeing it that way for so long. Try moving your furniture around to create a new layout. The novelty of having your furniture set up in different way can create a sense of newness that feels nice in your home. If you have more furniture than you actually need it can also make a space feel to cluttered. So, this one may fall under the decluttering category too!

ADD PLANTS

Adding plants to your home can help bring life to your space. Plants are relatively inexpensive to purchase and are not expensive to maintain. If you know you are not the type to keep up with watering plants or you just don’t have enough light in your home to keep them thriving, consider getting some artificial plants. I have never really been one for artificial plants in the past. However, some of the ones they have in the stores look so realistic now they can definitely add a nice feel to your home without having another thing to take care of!

PAINT

Another inexpensive way to spruce up your home is to do some painting. It’s pretty amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do. Paying someone to paint can be very expensive, but if you are willing to do the work yourself, it really doesn’t cost that much for the difference that it will make in your home. As some of you may know, we have been working on painting our kitchen and kitchen cabinets. The fresh paint and change of color has made such a huge difference in how the room feels. While painting an entire kitchen and the cabinets does add up, it’s nowhere near the cost of a full kitchen renovation. But, it still has a significant impact on the room.

SWITCH OUT THROW PILLOWS OR BUY NEW COVERS

Throw pillows can have a big impact on your room. Buy pillow inserts and covers separately so that when you want a seasonal or style change, you can simply unzip one cover and replace it with another. This makes for easier cleaning, too. Covers tend to be much cheaper than the inserts. So, you can update throw pillows several times throughout the year with little cost. Plus the pillow covers take up very little storage space.

REPLACE BEDDING

Getting new sheets, a duvet cover, a quilt, or accent pillows can liven up a bedroom for minimal cost. Maybe you want to add some color or just change up the style of what you currently have. Since bedding is often the focal point of a bedroom, changing it will make it feel like a new space. This will probably prompt you to also remove any clutter that may have accumulated on dressers or end tables which will make the room look even better!

ADD OR CHANGE LIGHTING FIXTURES OR LAMPS

Adding lighting to your home can make it feel more inviting. You can add lamps or even install new light fixtures to brighten up your space. If you look online you can find so many different styles of lighting that you may really love to see in your home. We had some old light fixtures in our home that we never bothered changing over the years. Recently we purchased some replacements and had our son install them. It made such a big difference in how the room looked and felt.

REARRANGE SHELVES

Rearranging your shelves can help you create a new look in your home. Sometimes random things get placed on shelves that don’t really belong there. These things can make the space feel a little cluttery. If you take the time to get rid of what doesn’t belong and nicely rearrange the things that belong on the shelves, it will make a big difference. Even if you have not accumulated things that don’t belong, moving your books and decorative items around to create a new display will make things feel a little different and new.

ADD OR REPLACE RUGS

Adding rugs to your home can help define spaces and they feel cozy on your feet. We have pets so we never buy expensive rugs, because any of you who have pets know when they are going to get sick or have an accident in the house, they never run to the tile floor, it’s always to the carpet! So, we occasionally replace the rugs in our home.  Probably every year or two, or whenever they just don’t look that nice anymore! It makes such a different. You can find affordable rugs at lots of places like Home Goods, Costco or BJs or online stores like Wayfair.

DEEP CLEAN

The last tip today is to spend some time deep-cleaning your home. It’s pretty amazing how much deep cleaning can make a difference in your home. Sometimes we can look at our space and feel like it is already pretty clean. But, putting in extra time to really get things very clean makes everything feel a little bit better. Part of the deep cleaning can include washing cushion covers, curtains, comforters, throw blankets and throw rugs. You would be surprised by how much having things extra clean can have an impact on the way your home feels.
