LOW-COST WAYS TO REWARD YOURSELF

low cost ways to reward yourself

You can hear the audio version of this discussion on my podcast at Lola’s Frugal Life Podcast, on Apple Podcast, and many other platforms!

REWARDING YOURSELF DOES NOT HAVE TO BE EXPENSIVE

A reward is just a way of recognizing something you have accomplished. So, it’s totally up to you how you would like to reward yourself. There are many ways to reward yourself for little or no cost. Here are just a few ideas of some things you might be able to do!

HAVE A DAY TO REST

Block out your calendar so that you are not available for anything else. Do not have a to-do list for the day. Just take time to relax and do whatever you would like to do. Maybe watch a couple of movies you have been wanting to see. Or get some reading done on a book you’ve been trying to finish. Plan some simple meals so that you won’t have to spend too much time cooking. I know it feels like there is no time to block out this time.  But, if you had an event to attend, like a family party or a wedding, you would block out the day. So go ahead and block out a day of rest for yourself!

TAKE A ROAD TRIP

Do a search online for some attractions within a reasonable driving distance. This could be a park you have never been to or maybe a museum. There are often free events that can be found online.  I have often found local events on Facebook. Pack a lunch if you don’t want to splurge on food while on your trip.

TAKE A TRIP TO GET A SPECIAL DRINK

If you don’t get special drinks on a regular basis, it can be a nice treat to take a drive to go get one. It can be the latest seasonal drink at Starbucks. Or whatever the specialty is at a local coffee shop. If you enjoy wine or beer, maybe go pick up something a little bit higher-end than what you would normally get.

HAVE A GAME NIGHT

Planning out a game night can be really fun. Maybe pick up a new board game or new deck of cards. Pick up some fun snacks, maybe something new to try. Don’t forget to pick up some of your favorite things to drink!

GET SOME NEW SOCKS

Am I the only one that loves brand new socks? I got some Kohl’s cash recently and wanted to get something useful and fun. The first thing that came to mind was some cute and comfortable new socks! I would think most people would like those!

BAKE A DESERT

If you like to bake, maybe try making something you have never attempted before. It can be fun to try making something new and see how it comes out! If you aren’t up for something new, make an old favorite recipe.

ORDER IN DINNER

If you don’t order out a lot, this can be a real treat. Maybe try somewhere new. I often can find lots of recommendations for new places to order from on our local Facebook Group.

HAVE A YOU TUBE LEARNING DAY

Is there something you have really been wanting to learn about? Spend some time searching on youtube or on other online resources. You would be surprised at how much you can learn on YouTube or from other free courses online.

WATCH THE SUNRISE AND GET BREAKFAST

It can be really fun to get up early and go to a nice location where you can watch the sunrise. It feels special because it’s not something you would normally do. After watching the sunrise, go pick up something for breakfast!

SPEND A DAY DOING RESEARCH ON A PLACE YOU WOULD LIKE TO VISIT

It can be really fun to spend time planning things you would like to see one day. Take it further than just the location, start doing research on activities or things you would actually like to see when you do get to visit. Keep the information saved so that you can access it later.

IT’S NO SO MUCH ABOUT WHAT YOU ACTUALLY DO

Regardless of what you choose to do to reward yourself, it’s more about acknowledging what your reward is for. Anything can be a reward if you call it that. If you say “I got this iced latte because I stayed on budget for the last two weeks”, it makes it feel a little more special. Be sure to acknowledge the reason you are treating yourself! Almost anything can be turned into a reward!
